Tara Francis Chan Tara Francis Chan Managing Editor & Operations Director Tara Francis Chan is The Appeal’s Managing Editor & Operations Director. She was previously a senior editor at Newsweek, where she led coverage of politics and social issues, and was the launch editor of Business Insider’s Asia desk, where she helped establish the editorial scope and operations of a news team across three continents. In these roles, her reporting and editing often centered on the human rights crisis and mass extrajudicial incarceration of Uyghurs in Xinjiang. She was also the editor of a leading Australian magazine where she managed special projects including a bestselling book, that raised $2.5 million for a social enterprise, and launched a national conference series. She was previously a finalist for Young Australian Journalist of the Year. Tara graduated with a bachelor in communications and a diploma in innovation management from the University of New South Wales, where she was a William McIlrath Rural Scholar, and has since worked on projects in New York, London, Moscow, Sydney, Edinburgh, and Abu Dhabi. @taramfrancis
