Alex Bassos was in public defense for 23 years, including as the training director in Portland, Oregon, for almost a decade. He is the author of “Mental Health and Criminal Defense,” a manual for representing people with mental illness and was given both the President’s Award and the Lifetime Service Award by the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association for his work. He is the founder of the largest expungement clinic in Oregon, which he helped develop into a full-service, civil-legal office of the public defender.
